Uniform Guides
There are three garments used for everyday sword practice. These are
the keikogi 稽古着 (practice top),
obi 帯 (belt), and
hakama 袴 (pleated pants). These must be put on properly and the
details may change based on the style of swordsmanship practiced. We have
included some guides on how to put on the
practice uniform and how to fold the
hakama.
Tabi 足袋 (split socks) may also be worn
during practice and zori 草履 (sandals) can
be worn outside the dojo. Tabi make it easier to slide the feet on some
practice floors. Zori come in quite handy since shoes are not allowed in
the dojo and they are easy to get off and on when moving to and from the
practice floor.
